T
he above photo you see of Santo was taken by me only 3 hours before his death.  Santo died of mesenteric torsion. He died at my vet as he was being prepared for surgery....it happened that fast. The photo of him was taken during our early morning walk.  He was energetic and vital at that time, soon after it was evident something was not right and I took him immediately to my vet.
Santo was the only stud dog I have owned that fits the word Magnificent.  My co-owner of Mambo said to me more than once "Ramona, for gods sake when ever people come to look at the dogs bring Santo out last!"  She was right, once you saw him, you lost interest in all others, they paled in comparison.  His carriage, gate and character was larger than life.  He acted and moved like he was king of the world.  A strong willed dog that was also a mischievous companion.  A favorite personality trait of his was he would often grumble like a bear as he was making his rounds or working with me and he loved to wrap his front leg around yours as you where walking if he felt you where not paying attention to him.  It has taken me over half a year to be able to write about this. He was a very unique dog and he is missed very much by many.

Santo was a medium large, imposing male with strong head and dark sable color. He caught ones immediate attention with his presence and character. Santo's overall working ability was strong. High ball/prey drive and at the same time he was naturally suspicious of strangers. He had properly developed defense drive and considerable retrieve drive. His natural aggression level was stable and strong, with bite work that has full and hard. He was a agile dog with super ground speed. He had good hunt drive and tracking ability. Santo had nice willingness to work with his handler and sound social judgment. A dominate male yet he was good with other animals; cats, horses, cows, with no dog or handler aggression. He was typical of the 3 breedings between Rocky and Oresta which produced many versatile active working dogs. All pups from this particular combination have been healthy, with zero hip/elbow dysplasia reported to date. Santo replaced his father Rocky in our breeding program and now his daughter Touché will follow. Santo produced progeny with pronounced drives and stable aggression. His progeny are being prepared now in USA and Canada for Police, SAR, family, SchH and other competition areas. His frozen semen has been purchased by the New Zealand Police dog breeding center.

Through his father Rocky, he is of the 2nd bloodline founded by HETTEL Uckermark over the renown branch of GREIF v. Felsenstein, LOGAN Onix, AJO Ja-Kra, CAR pod Molnosskou banou, CORDON An Sat, TOM z Pohranicni straze. Santo has these excellent producing dogs within his fathers pedigree: IWO von der Buschecke, DRAGO z Humnan, CIR z Vrtovske doliny, AXA z Huckelovy vily, KASO z Pohranicni straze, CLIFF von der Mohnequelle, AXA z Blatenskeho zamku, and HOBBY Venusina Sopka.

From his mothers side he belongs to the 5th bloodline founded by Rolf v. Osnabrucker Land. Oresta brings in the precious blood of former DDR dog - BERRY Christelas through Gero v Markersdorf. Other important ancestors: INGO von Rudingen, Viktor von der Edelquelle, Bojar vom Schotterhof, TREU von Schaferstolz.

August 2007, Santo was Narcotics certified through the Untied States Forest Service and tested under Patrol Captain Dale A. Brandebery, for Narcotics Detection which include the odors of; MJ, Cocaine, Heroin, Exxtasy and Meth. Santo was certified in Cadaver Level 1, trained and handled for cadaver certification by his breeder and owner Ramona, and tested under Tri-State guidelines.  Ramona also trained Santo in tracking.
